While price may also be a factor, Consumer Reports has stated their tests show that “a little more often buys a lot more mower.”
Battle of the blades: Steel versus grass
There are three features of Troy-Bilt mowers that contribute to a clean cut:
- A rake guard that stands grass upright for an even cut. The guard is part of a bumper that can prevent damage to trees and fenceposts.
- A newly designed S-blade that improves how grass circulates and mulches. There are six inches of cutting edge on each end.
- A symmetrical deck that improves airflow, creating a finer mulch and reducing clumping and clogs. The deck extends beyond the wheels for edge-to-edge cutting.
Wheels are connected on metal axles, which keep them running straight, allow for easier height adjustments and create less wear. Higher rear wheels and self-cleaning treads provider for easier rolling and less wear as well.
Beyond power
Better materials and design help contribute to the longevity of a lawn mower: a strengthened steel crankshaft to prevent bending and damage, deluxe muffler to run quieter and overhead valve to run cleaner and more efficient. More powerful engines can drive self-propelled models, but ultimately help the machine run cooler – prolonging its life.
