Ice Melt Fit for a Canadian Winter

Winter is coming, and for some of us it may already be here. Either way, we all know that it can be a slippery season. Make sure you and your family are prepared with the best ice melt available.

Co-op is proud to support local, Canadian-sourced products, and our CO-OP® GOLD Ice Melt is no exception. Sourced from Saskatoon-based, NSC Minerals Inc., Co-op Gold Ice Melt is a must-have for Canadian winter.

Not an Icy Relationship

Rob Lozinski of NSC Minerals describes the relationship with Co-op as “tremendous.”

“We really enjoy that it’s our salt in the Co-op Gold bag. Our relationship with Co-op was already excellent, but now it’s even better,” said Lozinski.

Co-op’s relationship with NSC Minerals spans over twenty years and furthers our commitment to not only sourcing local, but also to making sure we’re sourcing the very best quality in our products. We can rest assured knowing that Co-op Gold Ice Melt is the best ice melt out there.

Melt It Away

Lozinski explained that Co-op Gold Ice Melt is a unique blend of sodium chloride and calcium chloride – a blend that melts ice at temperatures as low as -28° C.

The unique formula gives NSC salt its superior performance and lower melting temperatures, but it’s also environmentally conscious. NSC Minerals sources the minerals for its ice melt from potash mines in Rocanville, Sask., where sodium chloride is a natural by-product. It is then screened and kiln-dried right on site.

“Our proprietary blend of naturally pink sodium chloride and calcium chloride makes sure Co-op Gold Ice Melt is easy to see where it is applied and also makes it a strong ice melt for home and commercial use,” Lozinski said.

The natural pinkish colour of Co-op Gold Ice Melt means that the product is easier to apply and is also dye-free, ensuring no staining as the product melts.

Co-op Gold Ice Melt is also safe around pets, and the salt blend’s naturally flat crystals don’t present any risks to pets, such as jagged edges that may get caught in fur or stuck in paws.

Co-op Recommends

Being vigilant about ice melt is important in a Canadian winter, when walkways and outdoor spaces can become one giant slip ‘n’ slide. Ice melt puts your family’s safety first and should be used to avoid slips and falls on your walkways, steps or driveways.
