Windows offer more than just natural light and a place to look. The frame colour of a window can make a statement — adding both interior and exterior character to a home.
Tracy Nadiger, Director of Marketing and Customer Experience for All Weather Windows, understands the draw of a unique streetside presence. She offered some expert advice on interior and exterior home design and even gave us an insider’s view on future trends.
Nadiger told us about the different colour options available, noting two different application types. One type of colour application is acrylic wrap laminated onto the PVC window frame. The other way All Weather Windows applies colour to its windows is with aluminum cladding.
Available colour options for both application types include Black, Architectural Brown and Anthracite Grey. There are three additional colours available in acrylic wrap and 16 aluminum cladding options.
Nadiger said it’s becoming more and more important to consider the window frame colour options before they’re installed in your home.
“Colour on the exterior of your home can change the entire look of your house,” she said. “Just the same way as when you create combinations of windows or different operating styles, it changes the look of the house.”
Homeowners can also incorporate interior window colour options into their decor theme. Nadiger noted black window frames are the new white, with the demand rising for both exterior and interior applications.
“Homebuilders in some areas are just catching on now that black is a thing,” said Nadiger. “It could be that consumers don’t know they can get it for their interior, too. However, grey is certainly coming on strong. And I think the next trend that you're going to see is Scandinavian colours. These would be a lot lighter greys, a lot lighter browns.”
Nadiger said when deciding on window frame colour, it’s important to consider how the colour is being applied. She noted that some companies will paint colour on windows, and although it’s inexpensive, it’s not very durable. She cautioned that painting window frames typically only comes with a two-year warranty because the colour will fade quickly and look chalky.
However, an acrylic wrap won’t fade, scratch or get chalky, and it comes with a 20-year warranty on most popular colours.
“Durability and warranty is definitely something people should look at before they decide on their windows,” said Nadiger.
She also said you should consider your exterior siding, soffit and fascia when choosing a window frame colour.
“I’ve seen dark siding and stonework on houses with black windows — it’s a very striking look, whereas white would be very stark and would stand out in a more sophisticated look,” Nadiger said. “It’s about complimenting your siding colour and matching soffit and fascias.”
Nadiger said that customers can track restaurant design — and even plumbing design — to anticipate window and door trends and make plans for their own home.
