Create Your Own Shower Oasis

Showers can act as a custom piece of art in a bathroom, or simply serve a practical purpose – or both! When updating your bathroom, you need to decide whether the shower will be used for single or double occupancy, have seating or ledges and if it will come in a standard or custom size. Take the time to consider all your design options when it comes to planning your shower.

Tile vs Acrylic

Your two main options for covering the walls and floor of a shower are tile and acrylic. If you are choosing a unique size or shape for your shower, you will need to use tile. If you are going with a standard size, you can use either acrylic or tile with an acrylic base. Both provide watertight options, but preference comes down to cost, style and maintenance factors.

Glass vs Curtain

You can expect glass and curtain-and-rod styles to create two very different shower experiences. Glass opens up the space to allow more light into the shower A curtain is great if you want to be able to completely remove it, allowing easier access for children and for cleaning. The glass option can be done with framed or frameless glass. The frameless option is ideal for cleaning.

Built-In vs Accessory Shelving

Shelving is an essential and practical aspect that can be added to a shower. If you are doing a custom-tiled shower, consider the option of framing in built-in recessed shelving. It does not take away from the size of the shower and it adds convenient storage solutions. Another option you could consider for any shower is accessory shelving. Glass, metal or stone shelving can be added to any existing shower.

Body Spray and Rain Head vs Multi-Function Showerhead

You can add in some amazing shower features, such as body sprays, steam showers and rain heads to amplify your showering experience. These are wonderful if you are looking for something unique, however, you need to take into account the amount of water needed to create such a shower oasis. Another option is to install a multi-function showerhead so you have the body jet and rain shower all in one. Don’t forget, you can also explore different options somewhere between these two realms.

Examine your shower wish list before committing to any shower design. Designs range from lavish extremes to practical solutions that can turn any shower into an oasis. But above all, remember to factor in your needs, room size and budget.
