Fibreglass insulation offers added home protection

Insulated homes are naturally more balanced than others – contractors and homeowners know how valuable proper insulation is. There are many different types of insulation, and they all have different uses and specialties, so it’s important to know what you’re buying. One of the more common types is blown (blown-in) fiberglass. Blown fibreglass provides an alternative to thermal batt insulation in attics, ceilings and walls for new construction or retrofit applications. It can also be installed within a floor assembly to enhance acoustical properties. Owens Corning, a leader in insulation, takes us through the uses and benefits of blown fibreglass insulation and outlines why their PROPINK® FIBERGLAS® Blown Loosefill is an industry leader.

How Does Blown Fibreglass Insulation Work?

Fibreglass insulation is comprised of plastic filaments with recycled glass made into fibres. The glass fibres create an effectively distributed network of thermal reservoirs to resist heat transfer and achieve industry standard thermal requirements with less glass material. With the advantage of having glass fibres, this insulation is also moisture resistant. Research has shown that the glass particles slow down the spreading of heat or cold flow, sound and can reduce residential energy costs by up to 40 per cent.

Advantages of Blown-in Fibreglass Insulation

  • Moisture Resistant

Fibreglass is easier to dry and put up back in the attic. It resists moisture and mould growth.

  • Fire Resistant

Blown-in fibreglass insulation is non-flammable because of the minute fibres of glass. Fires do not affect the insulation as it is considered completely fire resistant.

  • Thermal Resistance Efficiency

Blown-in fibreglass insulation makes the structure thermally more efficient as it retains the temperature of spaces in buildings. A benefit of blown-in fibreglass insulation is the possibility of being installed over the existing batt insulation which increases the R-value.

  • Soundproof

It is a natural sound absorbent material which reduces the transmission of sound through walls, ceilings
and other spaces in homes and other structures. Fibreglass insulation successfully blocks acoustics in homes.

  • Highly Durable and Easy to Install

Fibreglass insulation is super durable and known for its long life and sustainability. It is the most preferred insulation material considering durability. Blown-in fibreglass is easier to install and is a painless process as compared to other insulations.

  • Less time = more money

ProPink Loosefill saves you time and money. Installed with commercial pneumatic equipment, PROPINK® FIBERGLAS® Blown Loosefill Insulation produces a fast blow rate with less dust and static, making installation fast and easy.
