Spice things up with 2019 Colour of the Year

The colour story for 2019 continues the trend seen in recent years: soft, warm tones that provide a sense of relaxation.

Co-op’s 2019 Colour of the Year is Ginger Scent (336D), which taps into the desire for self-reflection and internal happiness. It is a soft terra-cotta colour that can be calming and elegant when combined with delicate neutrals. However, it can also provide a fun, vibrant style reminiscent of sherbet that can be combined with bold hues, patterns and shapes.

In a nod to mid-century modern style, the natural shade pairs well with vintage textiles, luxe leather, simple wood grains and bright greenery. It can stand out when you want it to or add a layer of colour to your space, blending in without overpowering it.

Ginger Scent complements deep blues, greens, warm neutrals and earth tones. It is part of the Preserve colour palette, which includes comforting hues with a fresh new take. The palette combines safe and relaxing neutrals with pops of daring colour. Try pairing colours with furniture with clean lines. Upholstery, natural wood and stone work seamlessly with the palette.

Use Ginger Scent or Hot Tamale (336F) as part of the latest home design trend of painting the ceiling with bold colours. If doing this, paint the walls with off whites like Favourite (WH14) or neutrals like Chinchilla (408D) to bring balance. The Preserve palette is best in bigger spaces such as living rooms, kitchens or great rooms and also includes Enchanted (321C), Cracked Wheat (326D), Moody Indigo (309E) and North Hampton (318E).

Colour palettes are determined by studying consumer insights and global design trends. The intent is to encourage the use of colour, knowing that the palette is carefully selected to work together and bring colour harmony into the home.
